AIDA-Goa
This tropical resort is a celebration of sustainable monumental architecture, defined by magnificent bamboo structures that appear to rise organically from the landscape. The design centers on expansive, open-air pavilions where soaring bamboo arches and intricate woven ceilings create cathedral-like volumes for dining and gathering, bathed in natural light from overhead skylights. Water is a unifying element, with reflective pools mirroring the dramatic architecture and blurring the boundaries between the shaded interiors and the lush exterior. Circulation is managed through rhythmic colonnaded walkways that combine raw concrete pillars with warm wooden louvers, guiding guests through the verdant grounds.
Woven Architecture: An Open-Air Sanctuary in the Tropics
The guiding principle for this resort was to create monumental architecture using highly sustainable, locally sourced materials. We selected bamboo as the primary structural element for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio and flexibility, allowing us to craft the sweeping, dramatic arches that form the resort's iconic silhouette. Spatially, the design prioritizes an open-air experience to capitalize on the tropical climate. We dissolved traditional walls in the main public areas, relying on the grand bamboo trusses to define the space while ensuring unimpeded airflow and seamless visual connections to the surrounding pools and landscaping. To balance the visual lightness and warmth of the bamboo, ground-level elements like the connecting corridors utilize cool concrete and robust timber detailing to provide a grounded, rhythmic transition between spaces.
