Villa Esperanza
Situated on the historic riverine island of Divar Island near Panjim, this post-retirement home was designed to blend seamlessly with the village's charming Indo-Portuguese heritage. Built in for a client relocating from Delhi, the single-storey residence prioritizes community integration through a modest design that respects the local architectural fabric.
The Art of Belonging: A Seamless Ode to Divar’s Heritage
The design process was anchored in a philosophy of "architectural humility," driven by the client's deep desire to integrate rather than impose. Guided by the town's distinct Indo-Portuguese vernacular, the team prioritized a low-profile, single-storey volume that respects the existing neighborhood scale. This vision was realized through active collaboration with local craftsmen and contractors, ensuring that the construction methods were as authentic as the aesthetic. By engaging regional artisans and selecting grounding, tactile materials like sandstone and granite, the team crafted a residence that feels organically woven into the cultural and physical landscape of Divar.
